WAV and MP3 files

I was just trying to cancel the vocals out of a song I know and the Intrumental is official and in WAV and the regular song is in MP3, but nothing will cancel out for some reason. Does it have to do that WAV is higher quality than MP3?

Any help/feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

its probably because the wav is lossless quality and the mp3 has been compressed which alters the quality. you'd do better to look for a wav or flac version of the original. this isn't guaranteed to work as a lot of instrumentals are deliberately altered these day so that acapellas cant be made. It also doesn't usually work for older tracks either. alternatively you could send me the lossless instrumental and I can have a go for you. I have been making diys for years.
