songs taken from others

seen this video, found it very interesting ... I thought it would be a nice topic to share on our forum :)
share the ones you know

Video was killed, what was this about?

It's pretty much about what the video title suggests pal, it shows where he got/borrowed ideas from for his own songs, it's pretty cool to be honest as it shows where he got inspiration from. Kinda feel all music ideas are borrowed to a certain extent, just gotta be proud that you gave someone inspiration to go out there and create something people might enjoy! :)

I guess this is how mashups get made, people getting inspiration from others and sampling them. There's a few songs i've noticed that sound similar, the only one currently coming to mind is Smoke On The Water by Deep Purple and Propane Nightmares by Pendulum, makes a banging mashup :D

in the video the guy went through songs that "inspired" Noel Gallagher while writing 10 of his songs.
"talent borrows, genius steals" O.Wilde

Hmm i watched this video and yeah i do see some similarities but i wouldn't say they're copies in my opinion. 99% of musicians get their ideas from inspirations from other tracks.

Maybe i'm just being over-defensive being a big fan of Noel Gallagher. Let's hear some more opinions from members.

I grew up listening to oasis, I still remember the first time i heard dont look back in anger ... it was such a revelation ...
so im a huge fan myself. Sharing This video didnt want to scorn Noel in anyway... i still believe he is a genius.. I just found it interesting to know how some songs were born or what inspired him or to see how taking pieces from already released songs he created something new.
i have seen quite a few people recently have released "new" songs taking portions of known ones and making them "their own"
this one comes to mind but there are quite a lot now.

however there are many songs that had copyright issues ... i think what Noel have done here is to be considered more of a tribute to sings he loved rather than trying to copy a melody in a sneaky way

I totally agree. I mean tracks like Live Forever, Don't Look Back In Anger, Wonderwall, Supersonic, oh i could go on and on, they're iconic anthems now.

still hard to understand how he has written all those gems on his own ...the first 4 album (including the masterplan collection) ... come on ! who does it ? :)

thinking about songs that "inspired" other songs 2 more came to mind :
a whiter shade of pale

PROUD MARY !!! apparently was inspired by Beethoven's "5th Symphony "

Fogerty came up with the famous chord riff on guitar when he was playing around with Beethoven's "5th Symphony." That one goes "dun dun dun duuunnnnn...," but Fogerty thought it would sound better with the emphasis on the first note, which is how he arrived at "do do do do."

This part reminded him of the paddle wheel that impels a riverboat. "'Proud Mary' is not a side-wheeler, it's a stern-wheeler," he explained.

please add the stories you know : )
