level of difficulty

why has the level of difficulty decreased since the old nintendo days? there were no savegames, memory cards, you had to try forever to get a single level done.

I was just having a discussion with my sister about this exact type of thing a few weeks back. Personally, I much prefer the way games are now. Don't get me wrong, I grew up with Super Nintendo and the old side-scrollers, but the difficulty of those games compared to today's games are much different. Back then, games were so hard mostly because they were just so much more frustrating. You only had so many tries or you had to start completely over, and you pretty much had to do it all in one sitting, because, like you said, you couldn't save. As far as I'm concerned, that's more of a situational difficulty as opposed to the game itself being difficult. Add that to the games that actually were tough to get through and you get yourself a kid throwing his controller against the wall in anger once he gets a game over.
