Instrumentals for TV Adverts

My brother and I were watching Nickelodeon (he's sick lol), and then the advert for Nickelodeon shows came on (E.g. 'The Thundermans, Friday at 5pm) and only near the end I started to hear the breakdown of 'Break Free' by Ariana Grande & Zedd, but it was a remake instrumental, all of it had been remade! Which got me thinking, surely a wildly successful company who have even worked with Ariana and been in contact with her record company several times should be able to get the Official instrumental to it, which worried me even more, if not even Nickelodeon could attain the real instrumental, I'm afraid it will never be passed down to us :'(

This happens quite a lot on tv. Using a cover version is LOADS cheaper to licence, and let's face it, apart from you, not many people would notice or even care!
It's the same arguement between using an original sample in a track or replaying it as close as possible to the original. Saves you shed loads of money fees!

I knew that money was a factor, but I don't know why it just slid past me ! I just always thought Ariana was close to Nick so they could relatively get the music cheaper, but yh I guess they are saving hundreds/thousands??

I heard the instrumental of Muse's Defector used on a TV advert months back and it pisses me off that the album still hasn't been released as instrumentals.

The two guys were right, it's cheaper to use a cover
version. Plus it's Nickelodeon. Only kids watch that and they won't know the difference if they just use a cover. But I think MTV (Nickelodeon's sister channel) can get the instrumental in some way, since they need instrumentals for the live performances during the VMAs (the official one was actually used during Ariana's 2014 VMA performance.)

I know it annoys me lmao, but I spent SO LONG trying to find a really good HQ version of her performance so I could try filtering something but I couldn't get anything.

I think radio stations also have the instrumental. Sometimes I can hear the instrumental being used when the DJ's talking.

I heard that's how the instrumental to Ariana Grande's 'Why Try' leaked, he had a friend who worked at a radio station, passed down the instrumental, he then traded it and it in the end got leaked :)
