Dead Links Notice

There is an increasing number of links becoming inactive and because of the vast amount of threads in the Green Zone it has been difficult to moderate.

Now, we are finalising a script to check all threads in the Green Zone and if enclosed links are dead/inactive they will be moved to the Dead Links area and the author of the thread notified of the removal.

We currently have many files in the Dead Links area already so i am putting a bar on new files being moved into the Dead Links for 7 days and opening up the full area for members to reactivate the threads. In 7 days we will remove all current threads in the Dead Links forever and then run the script to check all remaining threads in the Green Zone.

Threads will be monitored daily for dead links from then on.

Easy way to get credits, re-up the dead links.

Please dont use 're-up' in the title. If we did this every time then 90% of thread titles will have it eventually. I have corrected the 2 titles for you.

If you repaired the link in the correct method (via the 'Repair Dead Link' at the start of the original post) then it will go to NewAgeRipper and he should remove the dead link thread.

Thanks Gill.

.
yeah, I kinda developed a habit of putting "re-upped from
dead links"...habit is now broken lol

NewAgeRipper and the rest of staff have a hell of a job
policing this place "no hide tags, double posting, etc, etc"
so I guess my fixed dead links got misplaced..no drama

cheers, gill

What if we have a file that was uploaded so many years ago that you no longer have it? That was the case for me. I had a file that I uploaded roughly 5 years ago that expired but haven't had the file in over 3 years.

In that case someone who still has the file would need to upload again and repair link. If they get a credit fine. Or if it has gone dead they can submit new post. Removing dead thread will erase what's missing. But those who replied to the thread and had access to the original link can be PMed in case they can fix it. First up first served a credit after they commit to fixing by confirming a button or something.

How about this?

If the scpt finds the link is ded, PM the author, wait for a week, and If the author doesn't fix it, delte the thread.

THis gives a chance 4 the author 2 reup the file, and saves the hassle of mking new thread if they have the content.

That's pretty much how it's gonna work. ;)

I just want to get something clear. You're saying the original poster has one week to re up, then the post will be removed from the dead links section forever? Will there be a list of removed songs? How will we know what has been removed? Or, what version of a song has been removed? Some songs have several versions due to separation , quality, etc.. I hope there is some way to address this, so that people who do re up, such as Gill Bates, have an easy time providing that service to the entire community.

PS. i do realize that moderating isn't an easy task, and thankless to boot, so i hope this helps all your efforts ... they are greatly appreciated.

This week is a period for members to search through the dead links and take advantage of re-uploading these files. After the 7 days is up we will be emptying the bin.

From then, i will run the script through acapellas, instruments and track stems. All dead links will be moved to the dead links area and the original poster will be sent a PM notification.

This script will be added to a daily schedule to run throughout the green zone and constantly remove dead links and notifying author. Files will remain in the dead link section for 30 days. Either the author or another member can fix links within the dead links area and it will become active once more. It's first come first serve despite if you are the author of the previous link or not.
