A possible solution for mislabeled uploads?

Hi guys,

I've just downloaded the "Cyndi Lauper Remix Pack", which is neither a remix pack nor it's by Cyndi Lauper.
Since it's a clear rip off, here's my idea how to deal with situations like these:
"If an upload is mislabeled, the original poster will get as many reps deducted
as there were people who wasted their reps on said mislabeled upload."
Is it doable? I sure hope it is. Cheers and keep up the good work!

I'm not an admin but I would advocate something like this. I've wasted MANY a credit on posts labelled as 'studio acapella' or 'official instrumental' when they are either filtered or fan made (respectively).

The infamous Cindi Lauper pack.... I got taken too! :D
That Idea would take writing a whole new addon to the forum. I like the idea, but just don't see it happening.

They could've just reworking on "Report Dead Link" add-on, making another button called "Report Mislabeled content" instead. Problem is an admin would have to judge whether the report is right or not before granting credit-back and/or punishing threat starter

Yes, unless the forum rules explicitly state that mislabeled uploads will get you negative reps to the amount of the people you hook on. Maybe then people who do this will think twice.

I think the best thing to do would be to just make a Warned Group, and on 1st offense give everyone 1 warning, 2nd offense, BANNED! This would probably be the most sufficient and easy approach.

But that way dishonest members could still rack up enough reps to leech from the download section, right?

IMHO, you have to give everybody the benefit of the doubt. hence warning.
anything after that = BAN. How could anybody still rack up credits if they are banned?
This seems to me to be the most logical thing to do...

The rule really needs an update to prevent that from happening again. Uploaders should hold responsibility in their shared content and if they are caught mislabeling on purpose they will get rep-down/infraction

Since a leecher need at least +5 reps to start downloading, we can either:
- Have some active admin constantly monitoring new contents, especially if they are posted continuously (i.e a new member starting 4 threads, each with 1 links), and merge/delete them if the links are invalid (mislabeled/duplicated)
- Requires post approval from members with less than 10 reps - that way an admin can look at it before approval, and he can check if the content is mislabeled/duplicated or not.

Ive read through all the posts and understand that there is more we can do to prevent this. Before i get into it, someone requested a button similar to the 'Report as Dead Link' at the head of the page. We introduced that button because it will always be a constant issue and needs a simplified action. Notice under every post there are 2 left-aligned labels -- Add REP & Report Post. Feel free to use these.

All reported posts are instantly displayed in a staff section and currently has 1 officer who handles this, i will try and find a suitable staff upgrade to help with this as its becoming difficult to keep on-top-of. Its been mentioned that a 2-strike policy should be in place, it is. Infractions are given and have values subject to the severity of the offence. In 10% of cases a ban is required without warning. The other 90% of offences have combined values that a 7-day ban is automatically issued and again staff are displayed of this in our section. Any thread offence that was purposely to break our terms & conditions are stripped of all credits rewarded and given a ban for 1-month. This is already policy. I will add mislabeling to the terms & conditions.

Have i covered everything?

Yes I believe. The reason I suggest another report button is simply for easy-to-use (expert members can always use Report post for every purpose, including report dead link) As for leeching issue, everything would be fine as long as we always have someone monitoring the Vault section (and/or checking up member reports).
