A lot of musicians feel the same way, and brought out albums where the profits will go to humanitarian efforts to support the people of Ukraine. So here are a few albums I came across in the last week, where you can get help out, and get some good beats in return. It’s been a while since my last Bandcamp friday posts, so here’s some stuff I bought since then that is worth checking out, if you’re into the harder kind of electronic music. Some beats I’ve been enjoying are First Light from Sleepnet and Enro from DJ Ride. These are on Vision, which is run by the lads from Noisia, so you know it’s going to be high quality. These too are a bit more on the experimental side of the beats spectrum, which is what makes them beautiful. Let’s increase the speed a bit and enter the land of drum’n’bass. This was a fun one. A remix compo on darkstep.org I joined a while ago, and got a drum’n’bass/crossbreed kinda track selected on called “Fist Fight”. For the second “last Bandcamp Friday” post, we’ll dig up some good ol’ drum’n’bass from the digital catalog. Here’s some stuff I enjoyed in 2020 to fill your wishlist with: Let’s kick it off with The Nightmare Connector by DJ Hidden. It’s a bit of a hard one to fit in a single category, but I guess it fits best with drum’n’bass. Gritty, hard-ass drum’n’bass that occasionally crosses over into hardcore territory. UK-based collective Nian Dub is making some really cool dark and dubby drum’n’bass on EXE project. I ran into them on Soundcloud and I recommend checkout out the EXE podcast Transmission 002 with Nian Dub and Semiotix linked below. There’s a bit of banter and chatting in there, but the tunes in between are awesome and you learn a thing or two about the lads. IKEA’s KALLAX shelves have always been a popular choice for record collectors and DJs due to their ideal vinyl storage capabilities. With a few modifications, they can also be transformed into budget-friendly DJ booths for home or studio use. Mojaxx has previously explored this topic on the channel, but recently discovered a new KALLAX accessory from IKEA that has the potential to ‘elevate’ the entire system.
