Hey,been looking for an emulator so I can run windows xp on my win 7 home laptop, without having to install two operating systems.

This looks pretty cool https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads

anyone heard of or used it?

There are versions for win/mac/linux etc and from what i can gather you can even stick a windows eight preview onto it.....

You also can install many different operating systems on it at once.

Sounds too good to be true tbh, downloaded, scanned and clean apparently.

So its about to get thumped onto my hd.

love the bit where he gets an error and says....we aren't going to worry about audio!

.......erm yes Im worrying about audio, and networking!!!!

sorry 2 bump this over tims cruise thread but......if anyone is interested in this, here is another really cool vid

you can even stick the windows 8 trial on it :D

Im wandering if mac os can go on too........

OMG! I know Im talking to myself again but this thing is nuts......

The features are unbelievable.Even can be set up for remote access to the virtual machine. Many virtual machines can be setup, sky seems the limit depending on the spec of your computer. So in theory, you could be running windows server,xp pro,xp home,vista,7,8,linux all within the one program/pc

Number of cpu's can be assigned, size of hd,memory, video memory, access to host machines gpu, virtual lan cables the lot!!!!!

Where has this been all my life!

Virtual Box came about recently as a competition to Vmware workstation. This is an initiative from Oracle as they are now getting into the virtualization market. try vmware workstation. It's even better. Been around for a while now ;)

I read something about that ice m8,but does it cost money lol!

Im fed up spending money!

Thats the other thing about this, its free!!!!!!!

One of the vids I saw the guy said he preferred this to the one you mentioned so I never looked into it,but I will if you say its good :)

cheers, and hope you are all well

;)
