Stems what do you do with the them ?

Wow a lot of stems are leaking now, which is great news for collectors like me, I bought some recently and they have now leaked, I guess they all will at some point, Is everyone doing the same as me and just using them to listen to or are people actually doing anything with them ? if so what do you do with them ?

I use them to learn how a track is made. It's interesting to hear the total breakdown of a production and understand how ever subtle instruments and sequences are, when compiled, it can be an integral piece. They teach us what an artist was thinking while preparing or writing their track.

Everything i've ever collected i've shared so other people can learn and understand music a little more. If everyone did the same instead of using resources as a bargaining chip there would be more enthusiasts and producers with a greater knowledge of music production.

I take the stems, listen through them one by one, hearing absolutely everything that goes on in the piece of music and sometimes I find a lot of stuff I didn't notice were in the song at all, like the guitar solo in MCR's SING, it's buried in the mix but with the Rock Band 3 dlc, it's in plain earshot. But with most songs I find parts that others might not have heard in the original (like the little keys in Slipknot's Psychosocial) and restructure the song to highlight the easily missed things.

I agree it annoys me the people selling them as they are NOT theirs to sell, I find its a power thing I try to trade some but everyone with the rare stuff wants to sell. I have paid a lot for some in the past but all will leak eventually.

glad to know Im not the only crazy one spending hours meticulously listening to each track in solo ... i find it very interesting to also solo a few tracks at a time and see how they interact ... for example kicks and basses / 808 timing wise ... who goes first but also with plugins like fabfilter q3 you can see the waves on top of each other and understand how frequencies sum together... so inspiring!

if you have a few outputs on your soundcard, a few speakers a some time to "waste" you can route different instruments to different speakers and be surrounded by the band :) i did it once with Bohemian Rhapsody ... what a trip!!!

i opened a couple in pro tools first but it limits you so not a good option

well.... the more outputs , the more speakers , the more stems.. there is no limit :)

How cool would that be! Cut out some photo's of the band member and tape it to the speaker :p
