Hello everyone,
I just got back into DJing at the age of 26 after several false starts 5 years ago (short story: Someone stole my CDJs and mixer while I was out of town). I played drums and guitar growing up so I am not a musically ignorant person, but by no means am I skilled enough to produce my own stuff at this juncture. At this point I've just been making mixes in Traktor, collecting acapellas for that purpose (e.g., house acapella over instrumental house tune), and doing marathon mixes of the latest house/trance tunes. I am sure plenty of you can relate to this: I just "hear it in my head" when one song would go well with another, and make a mental note to try it out on the fly.
I guess I'm a decent DJ since I've already worked several gigs and am getting more all the time. Not bad for someone who just got his start in DJing roughly 4 months ago...I suppose I'm a natural? In any event I've started joining forums like this one to improve my game--I don't talk to nearly enough people who also DJ and I will be learning Ableton in the coming months.
Final catch: I'm a soon-to-be lawyer. I'm about to learn if DJing and lawyering are mutually exclusive.
Cheers,
David
