Extract audio from GB artist files?

kevmo

Superstar DJ
Hello:

I came across a few Garageband Artist learning files.
there are multitrack audio files with a .caf extension.
normally I can play these no problem, but these don't.
the only info I have for a codec is sac1.

they do play inside Garageband, but it isn't a multitrack GB file,
ext is : .mwand instead of
" .band "

the file is sort of an app within GB with audio and video.

anyone have any experience with this?
someone already extracted the JF Centerfield version.
I have Fortunate Son and Sting Fragile.

thanx in advance for any help / info

k!

Is it the GarageBand mobile or MAC? I use mobile expertly, so if you need any help with that I can help for sure with getting stems.

Try to plug in an iDevice with GarageBand open on both your MAC and iDevice, which may allow sending of the file to your iDevice.

On the iPhone, iPad, or iPod with GarageBand open, open the song, and solo the top track and save the song, and export it to 'iTunes'. Do the same for EVERY track in the mix (rename the song each time too).

Next, open iTunes on a PC/Mac, and go to the device (top righ-ish) and then 'On this device' then App Data Sharing or whatever it is, and go down to GarageBand on the list. Then save each file you exported somewhere on your PC, and import them into a DAW.

Issues with this:
All tracks are at Maximum Volume.
Can be hard to do with good quality.
Good quality files take up lots of space, and are very slow at exporting.

hey man:

thanx for the reply.

well I am on OSX. Don't have an iphone etc.

I don't think that what you're describing would work in this case.

whatever is decoding this is in the "Learn to Play" section of GB, and there are very few options.
and for lack of a better explanation, the file is an app that runs within Garageband,
you can access all the files, but nothing I have will play them.
the video is a multi layered multi angle multi subtitled vid that will play the vid,
but the audio will not play, it can be extracted converted still it will only run within the file that run inside GB.

specifically, "Learn to Play". which is different from standard multitrack in Garageband.
it is a multimedia self contained audio, video and multitrack file,
it's actually pretty cool for learning songs.

anyway, another option I was contemplating,
is to record with another audio/video capture app as each track is playing,
kind of an crappy solution, other than that, I don't know what else can decode "sac1".

thanx for the info tho, it's good to know.

thanx

PS if anyone wants to give it a go,
the files are a ru torrent, let me know I can PM a link.
if you use utorrent you can check just audio, the file sizes are:
J fogerty FS: multitracks 260 mb (entire file: 906mb)
Sting Fragile: multitracks 154 mb (entire file: 574mb)

It's obviously possible because that is where JF Centerfield comes from.

PM me a link, I'll try :)
I use windows myself, but have an accessible MAC if needed.

PS: Tyler (LR Admin) did the JF - Centerfield one. Ask him maybe?
