possibly I've got this wrong regarding the new
system of replying, but I don't think so..

I often go to the "new posts" to see what's new..
sometime a member has replied to an old post that
I didn't realise was here..and I can see it in the "new
posts" section..that's always good..

I just went to download something and used the new
system with the "thanks" button to unhide the link..
BUT...it doesn't show up in "new posts"..I think I will
have to actually "reply" to make that happen..

I've noticed that lots of members are not "replying"..
maybe they have nothing to say..but I'm thinking
that saying thanks or something doesn't cost much..

even though I come here and look at "new posts" there
is a good chance that I'm missing a lot of new posts or
old posts that I'm completely not aware of..

I suppose coding the "thanks" button to show the post
in the "new posts" menu is my point. (just wrote a novel)

cheers, gill

I personally like having the Thanks button. There are times when you don't want people knowing what you are doing.

no, you are not wrong Gill,
it has been that way for quite some time.

not sure why, you would think that's how it would work to notify as a change at least.

Hi Gill, completely agree with you. This morning I gave a same kind of sugestion in the chat bar. Perhaps a new selection 'popular posts' or 'hottest posts' where all post that got a thank after the latest login is shown can be a solution that suits all. Apart from Brad because he has to programm this.:)

Hi Bill, you are a bit higher in the ranking than I am;;) Are you going yo adress this topic to Mr3 so that something may be done about it or was it just get an opinion to see how other members think about this?

.
I was curious to see if others felt the same as me..

and yes, I guess Mr3 will probably see this and take
my opinions on board, and the opinions of others..
I'm not going to make a fuss because he's just had
big drama with the site and worked hard to fix it..

interestingly, some sites I visit have a situation where
you can click on a menu item or button that says
"new posts since you last visited"..or words to that effect..
even if it's maybe three months or more since I visited..
I have to be logged in, of course

anyway, thanks for the replies from everybody..cheers

I agree with you. I like seeing what's been currently "Hot" with others around here. I've found quite a few old posts that I didn't know existed here until they were put on the new list when you log in.

Okay let me update...
There is now a THANKS counter displayed (if NOT = null) in the thread list. THANKS now bumps the thread too.
I can introduce a link to a search query page in the Navigation menu labelled "What's New" if you think it would be useful? Although there is a "New Posts" option in there already

Anything else we're missing?
